Welding is the process of joining two different pieces of metal using some form of molten material. There are different welding types, but stick welding is the simplest and oldest form and is where beginners must start. Stick welding is performed by creating an arc of electricity between an electrode and the metal. The current melts the metal workpiece, thus making it pliable.
Thanks to the versatility of the needed equipment, stick welding can be done outdoors, whereas other types using gas are not feasible for outdoor work. It is the most portable of welding types and can also be done on relatively thick metal pieces, even if they have some rust or dirt.
